Hello and welcome to my website. I am a Yorkshire, self taught sculptor working in wire.

Sculptures

As a huge animal lover, my focus is on lifesize animals, although I have made people, flowers, and even a pumpkin.

How it all began

I began sculpting several years ago, my first lifesize horse was for an organisation called ‘Flowers from the farm’ who were designing a display for Chelsea flower show. They won gold and I will be forever grateful to the founder who had faith in an unknown, unproven artist.

I was made redundant from my job as an early year teacher, covid and low birth rate meant 27 years of teaching was over. I believed it was time to reinvent myself and take the plunge to sculpt full-time, this was not an easy option as the breadwinner the pressure was on. I am so lucky to have the support of my husband and family throughout the process of running my own business and becoming a full-time Artist.

Media

When I first began sculpting, I used hay and wire, but the longevity of the sculptures was unknown. So, I had to find a media that would withstand all the elements and also give me the roundness and soft lines that the hay gave. I found stainless steel wool. It looks like fur, it looks great left silver and looks great spray-painted, it’s not the easiest media to work with, but I have learnt ways to handle it. All my sculptures have steel welded skeletons from which I then sculpt over, forming the shapes with stainless steel chicken wire.
